Local Missions

Our local missions focus on serving our community with the love of Christ through hands-on outreach, partnerships, and gospel-centered initiatives.

CEF is a worldwide ministry to children ages 4-14, the largest unreached people group in the world. Ministry goes outside the church walls to give every child the opportunity to hear the gospel and respond in receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. CEF assists churches in offering Good News Clubs as an after school program for one hour one day a week during the school year. In the summer, CEF trains teenagers to reach children by holding 5-Day Clubs; it’s like taking VBS to the neighborhoods.  Peninsula contact is Kevin Mooers (804) 580-0863, komooers555@me.com  SMBC contact is Melanie Courtney, (757) 565-0476,

FISH is an all volunteer organization of close to 250 people with no paid staff. Volunteers elect a Board of Directors who in turn elect a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.

FISH provides food, clothing, small house wares and transportation to the less fortunate and needy citizens of Williamsburg, James City County and the Bruton District of York County. Requests for these services are referred to FISH by social service agencies, churches, United Way, Avalon and other agencies. These services are provided at no cost to the recipient.

FISH does not receive any government or United Way funding and we do not do any fund raising on our own.

FISH depends solely on the generosity of individuals, churches, civic and business organizations as well as grants from foundations and memorial funds.

National Missions

Our national missions extend beyond our local community to support church planting, disaster relief, and evangelistic efforts across the United States.

Throughout the Bible, we see a pattern of God calling and sending His followers. Our State and National Missions Ministry offers opportunities for our members to participate in mission trips that allow us to carry the message of God’s love, mercy and redemption through His Son Jesus Christ. That is missions at its core. In the past twelve years, Gospel Way members have been involved in assisting new Church Planters in Bealeton, Mechanicsville West Point, Virginia. The needs of the Church Planters vary from helping with Vacation Bible School, Backyard Bible Clubs, door-to-door evangelism, survey-taking, prayer walking, block parties, light construction, food and clothing distribution and sports camps. A team of 18 venture to Brushton, NY and renovated a 150-year-old church sanctuary as well as ministering to children on a Mohawk Indian Reservation.

Families on Mission is a program geared to involve members of all ages in missions, from families with young children to vibrant grandparents, and including youth, young adults, and singles. Mission opportunities include out-of-state, in-state, and local opportunities and incorporate tasks such as facilitating backyard Bible clubs, serving meals, sorting and distributing clothes, and completing building repairs/revitalization. All members of the faith family at Gospel Way are welcome. For more information or to sign up for a future mission trip, contact Dustin and Angela Turlington at dusman81@gmail.com

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization. Our mission is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. We ship these simple gifts outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S. SMBC distributes shoe boxes and serves as a regional collection center for OCC.
